HIT THE TRAIL: THE CHISHOLM TRAIL HERITAGE MUSEUM

Come on down to Cuero to check out a really cool collection dedicated to one of the most legendary trails in Texas, the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum.

“This truly is a gem of a museum,” Cheryl said. “Right here in our own neck of the woods, too, which is very cool. I wouldn’t call myself a history buff, per se – or maybe I am – but I am endlessly fascinated with the origins of things and especially the people of any time and place. And the Chisholm Trail is personal to me, and to our family, because our great-grandfather Walker Riddle was a cattle drover on the trail, so walking through this museum was another level of experience for me. Inspiration everywhere!”

The museum, which opened to the public in 2013, is not only dear to us, it’s near to us – located at 302 N. Esplanade in Cuero, Texas, right down the road from the Mothership. The campus has expanded beyond what you’re likely picturing for a typical museum, to encompass other historical sites and become a sort of community hub.

“Visitors now discover world-class, interpretive exhibits on the ground floor of the Museum, which also includes a second-floor, 5,000-square-foot business and recreational community-use facility,” states their website. “And a two-story 4,500-square-foot annex. Also on the grounds are the adjacent George Bishop Park, ideal for outdoor events and activities, and the restored Queen-Anne Victorian Proctor-Green house (c. 1892).”

The facilities are fabulous and so are the people, you might recall that they graciously let us present the line launch of the Chisholm Trail collection from the museum, and chairman of the CTHM board, Robert Oliver, introduced us to all the expansive campus has to offer.
