Alright, ladies, checking in. We’ve just turned the calendar page, we’re in our second month of 2023, the new has worn off of New Year’s Resolutions, and it’s so easy to slip back into the comfortability of your status quo. We’re challenging you not to. As part of that, we want to share something that was so eye-opening to us, something that helps reframe decision-making, even (and especially) in those split-second choices that seem inconsequential, but can add up to a habit and become a behavior.

“The ‘Present You vs. Future You’ concept really, really resonated with me,” said Cheryl. “I shared it in our DDR Health & Wellness Facebook group, but I think it’s important and impactful enough to deserve its own blog article. I read it several times and committed it to my psyche, and now – not to sound cliché – but it’s kind of like the little angel/devil on my shoulder. When I’m standing there in front of the fridge, thinking about snacking on something I know I shouldn’t, I ask whether this is pleasing my present self or my future self. The reality is, I’ll spend 5 minutes eating it, another 5 hours feeling guilty about it, and then however long it takes to work it off; it’s really helped me make better in-the-moment choices. It’s helpful to not think of it as depriving yourself of something, but as rewarding your future self.”

There’s a well-known quote by Olympic Gymnast and gold medalist Peter Vidmar that is really apt and worth refreshing in your mind:

“Don’t sacrifice what you want most for what you want now. Write down what you want most and see it often.”

So, let’s do that, gals. Let’s write it down. Write it on your mirror, tape it to your fridge, put it on a sticky note on your computer monitor; wherever you need the reminder of what you’re working toward. And remember our new favorite phrase, “you can slip, but you don’t have to slide”!

~ I’m not on any social media platform so, what Cheryl said resonated with me. I do the same thing…stand in front of the fridge wondering what to snack on. My husband has such a sweet tooth; anything from chocolate (truffles) to cakes/pies which could easily divert my goal. Thinking of how I want to look 6 months from now, I snack on fresh fruits (grapes, blueberries, etc.) and carrots! I also started drinking lots of water throughout the day, including my workout. It takes away my desire to eat the wrong foods and do nothing for my body overall. It all comes down to how committed I am to reaching my weight loss goal (I already lost 3 inches of belly fat). ~
