Photo by Marty Wright, Wild Horses Carry Me Away

Meet Thrain, a beautiful bay roan wild stallion on the Virginia Range of Nevada. This handsome boy is a fairly young stallion, estimated to be about 4 years old. Thrain was injured last year and treated on another part of the range, but seems to be recovered and has recently formed his own new little family band, caring for three mares, Alora, Zilla, and Peaches.

In this photo taken by wild horse photographer and director of the Wild Horse Preservation League, Marty Wright, Thrain is doing what she explains is “snaking” his herd to move them out of harm’s way. “This is the equivalent of ‘the look’ that dads give!” she said.
