You don’t need us to tell you how gorgeous this green gemstone is – the shades and striations speak for themselves – but that’s just the beginning of why you might want to add this stunning stone to your collection. Malachite is considered a power stone, aligned to both the heart and the throat chakra, so it’s said to aid in loving unconditionally and accepting love into your life, as well as giving you the strength and confidence to speak your mind. Fancy that!

Malachite is making its way into our hearts – and jewelry boxes – as southwestern jewelry artisans seem to be taking a shine to the stone.

“As you know, Oscar Betz is always experimenting,” said Cheryl. “He’s always exploring and expanding his arsenal of rare shells and stones so that he can create truly unique color combinations, and what he’s done with this green is simply gorgeous. I would not be surprised if he starts getting an influx of commissions requesting malachite as one of the statement stones. Green is going to have a strong presence in the fashion world for the foreseeable future, so malachite is about to have its moment!”

And while it may be trending, it’s certainly not new.

“I think we can all agree that Kirk Smith was a visionary, so it doesn’t surprise me that he saw the magic of malachite in a time that it wasn’t mainstream. We have a vintage concho belt that Kirk crafted, and of course the silverwork is stunning, but the malachite is almost mesmerizing. It is gorgeous, even calling it a statement piece is an understatement! The man had a gift, it’s such a tragedy that he was killed so young, I would’ve loved to see his style evolve over the decades. Of course, that’s what makes his work all the more coveted and collectible.”
