We love that y’all are loving the look of Eloise! We’ve had more than one person reach out to ask whether we’ll be publishing a makeup tutorial for this, so we got our style guru Lisa Martensen to spill her secrets to creating a look that is rustic yet romantic, understated, and authentic to the era.

“Eloise is fresh-faced,” Lisa said. “That is really the key component of this look. When you hear the girls talk about Granny Eller, the first thing anyone says about her is that she was a hard worker, right? So she wasn’t spending a lot of time fussing with her makeup, and so it wouldn’t have made sense to have an overly made-up face for this collection. The colors are earthy and rosy, so I brought in hints of those hues, but only in the lips and cheek.”

    FACE

“Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!” she emphasized. “Foundation applied very sheer. Or none, Lozzie has on no base at all in this shoot; use a concealer only where you need it. Under the eyes and around the nose where everyone gets red. The goal is sheer, dewy and retro.”

    BROW

“BROWS. Brows, and then more brows. The brows are the stars of this look! Furry and blurry is the way I like to draw or brush on brows, followed up with a clear brow gel. My recommendations are a Christian Dior pencil or your favorite matte taupe eyeshadow. Did I mention I went heavy on the brows?”

    EYE

“As always, skip the mascara! For an extra editorial kick, I skipped the eyeshadow and instead used an extra shiny lip gloss on the lid. Which is another reason to omit mascara, with the gloss that mascara would’ve ended up in all the wrong places. Any clear gloss will do, but obviously, avoid something sticky.”

    CHEEK

“Use a rosy pink cream blush. My go-to is always RMS, so if you’ve tried any of my previous tutorials, you probably already have this in your makeup case. Apply on the apples of the cheeks for a natural flush.”

    LIP

“For the lips, I took my lead from the warm russet reds. Skip the liner, it keeps the mouth from looking softer. I wanted the lips to feel like a garden rose. Honestly, I rarely use just one color on lips. I started with a rusty red, with an addition of pinkish in the center of the mouth.”

Definitely going to try the gloss on the lid and no mascara, as well as the more than one lipstick. I am a huge Double D Fan, and have several pieces in my wardrobe. Your velvet blouse is on my wish list.
