Backwoods Barbie takes it back to the basics. And not just in celebrating a simpler time and an earlier era, but also in terms of wardrobe basics. This collection plays with a lot of floral throughout, but it also features some simple solid staples. Denim is an obvious no-brainer when it comes to a cowgirl’s closet, so we played around with a few different shades and a few different styles, from ruffled chambray tops to floor-length raw-edged skirts, to work into your spring wardrobe.
Now, we love the pieces themselves, don’t get us wrong – the Hard Times Workshirt and Skirt combo is straight up #goals this season – but every DDR sister knows, the beauty of a basic is, say it with me, ACCESSORIZING!
We have zero qualms about loading up any pattern or print with pins and squashes and cuffs, y’all know that, but denim basically demands it. (Y’all have seen Cheryl’s overalls.) So here are a few of our spring style suggestions for dressing up your denim:
SCARVES
At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we absolutely cannot overemphasize our love for scarves right now. (And y’all must feel the same – we can hardly keep ‘em in stock!) All the scarves in Country Calling are really bold and colorful, and as you know, denim is a neutral, so pick your favorite and tie one on! I mean, look how fabulously the Circus Rodeo scarf pairs with the Hard Times Top…
PINS
Pins are such an effortless accessory, and though they’re certainly gaining in popularity as of late, they’re still kind of an “unexpected” addition to your outfit, so they’re very effective at being eye-catching. And they work on EVERYTHING – your hat, your bag, your top, your overalls (*cough* Cheryl), your jacket, and of course, your SCARF!
DANGLY EARRINGS
A fabulous pair of studs or slabs are always a great go-to, but nothing adds that “wow” factor like the movement you get from a great dangly earring! After all, if you’re going simple with your outfit, why not go statement with your earrings?
BOLD BELTS
Adding a statement belt to your outfit is always a great idea, but they’re especially awesome with the Backwoods Barbie denims. The raw frayed edges of the Hard Times Skirt automatically draws your eyes to the waist, so it’s the perfect time to display that fabulous vintage belt or bad*ss buckle. (Don’t have one yet? I had an order in cart, but waited to ask questions today in reference to boot I was ordering. The belts were full price today? Just curious why. I will try to call tomorrow as well.
