COZY COUTURE

Fashion is strongly shifting towards the “wear what makes you happy” mentality, and we gotta say: we are so here for it.

“We’ve talked a little bit about ‘dopamine dressing’ recently,” Cheryl said. “Which mostly translates into really vivid and vibrant hues, but now we’re seeing it encompassing not only colors, but comfort. I think they’re tagging it #SupremeComfort. A lot of volume, a lot of texture, but elevated. Think: soft and squishy, yet chic. Cozy couture!”

There are several trends and buzz words in this vein you’ll be seeing a lot of in the coming year or two. The name of the game really comes down to two things: texture and volume. You’ll see a resurgence of Puffa jackets, quilted padding in things like your purse straps, belts, even shoes – there’s a lot of talk around “soft volume”. But textures will get cozier, too; teddy bear fleeces, shearling, tactile shifts in places you wouldn’t expect, like hats, footwear, accessories. Industry trend reports use terms like hypertexture and tubular volume, which both sound like slang from the ’80s to us, but are pretty on point in describing where this whole vibe is going.

“I follow trend reports, but I don’t necessarily follow trends,” Cheryl laughed. “Especially if they don’t really pertain to us or fit into the DDR look and lifestyle. It’s part of what keeps us timeless. What I will do instead, is to really let it marinate in my mind and adapt it in a way that pushes our comfort zone but stays true to our core style. So, I asked myself: what makes me feel comfortable and cozy? Duh. Hoodies!”

We brought the look to life a couple different ways in the Walker collection, which is perfect as we’re heading into fall. (Who doesn’t love to rock a hoodie under the Friday night lights?) The Fort Worth Herd hoodie is a little bit on the fresh, funky side, with subtle shifts to the silhouette (side slits, tie-string V-neck) and animal print complemented by retro writing. The Stockman’s Serape hoodie feels a little more classic, a familiar style of blanket pattern, with the awesome additions of a half-placket of snaps and slightly longer length for maximum wearability. Oh, and let’s not forget what might be the coziest in all the collection – the Overland Outfit Sweatshirt! It's not technically a hoodie, but more the old-school style of sweatshirt (you know, the REALLY comfortable kind) that we gave an upscale upgrade with intricate bold embroidery on a chic tri-color dip dye.
