BECOMING A BOARDWALK BEAUTY
Once again, we tasked our longtime stylist extraordinaire, Lisa Martensen, with transporting us to another place and time – this time, the Atlantic City Boardwalk circa 1930s – and once again, she delivered. She created a look that is simultaneously strong and subtle, and a little coquettish without being over the top. Here are her makeup tips and tricks for nailing that Boardwalk Beauty look.
FACE: Estée Lauder Futurist Hydra Rescue Moisturizing Makeup, Tarte Cosmetics Shape Tape Concealer
“Full coverage on the face, you want it to look uniform and flawless; remember, the look at the time was that kind of porcelain face, soft. Shape Tape concealer, if you’re not already using it, is one of the best kept secrets in beauty. It’s winning a lot of awards lately and gotten popular because it’s so effective and easy to use, but a lot of people still haven’t heard of it yet. I highly recommend trying it; it’s waterproof, crease proof, and has good ingredients in it like shea butter.”
EYES: ViseArt shadow, Maybelline Master Precise Eyeliner in Matte Black, Ardell FauxMink Wispies
“I sound like a broken record but fill in the brow with a shadow that’s about half to one shade darker than your own eyebrow; the point is to make them full, not necessarily super dark, so don’t go extreme in the color difference. Use a shadow to keep it soft. Then on the lid, use a medium brown matte – I love ViseArt shadow palettes – and swipe it across the lid and then slightly taper up at the outer corner, like a wing or a tail, but soft and subtle. Apply a soft matte pink to the upper part of the lid, between the brown and the brow. Line the upper lid with matte black liquid eyeliner, and I’m still skipping mascara, but I am applying wispie false lashes on top of the eyeliner. I am not doing anything to the bottom lid.”
CHEEKS: MakeUp ForEver Cream Blush (200)
“Use cream blush for a soft, subtle hue that will stay on. For this look, go with a soft pink – I used my go-to MakeUp ForEver Cream Blush in Cool Pink. You want it to be feminine and subtle, coquette, not harsh or bronze.”
LIP
“My recommendation for this lip is to go with something sheer, you don’t need a strong saturated lip. Stick with matte, I wouldn’t do a gloss with this look; a sheer reddish coral is perfect for Traveling Show. You can even do the trick of lining the lip and then applying a balm and blending it, just make sure you really blend it.”

Lisa you do such a beautiful job of each collection. I appreciate your talent. Thank you for sharing what are sometimes new products for me. I am really liking RMS that you have shared in the past. What could be more fun than a new box of crayons!
