A True Double D Gal - Jane Russell

Jane Russell was a "real" Double D gal....

and we are not just talking about her "measurements"!

Check out these fun facts about the late Jane Russell - some might surprise you:

• Jane was discovered by Howard Hughes while she was a receptionist at his dentist.

• She then made her motion picture debut in Hughes' The Outlaw in 1943.

• A photo promoting the movie, The Outlaw, Jane posed sensuously against a haystack became a popular pin-up with Servicemen during World War II.

• Jane help start the Hollywood Christian Group, a Bible study class for other believers in Hollywood. (I love that!)

• Howard Hughes is said to have designed a cantilever bra (otherwise known as the underwire bra) to take care of Miss Russell's physical endowments.  "Thank you Howard!"

• Russell's measurements at 5 foot 8 inches were 38D-25-36! VaVoom!

• During Jane's number "Ain't There Anyone Here For Love" in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, she was accidentally knocked off the edge of the pool by the diving Olympic team and landed in the pool. This was unscripted but was kept for the final release.

• Jane was most notably remembered for her upper measurements, but she had great gams and a terrific singing voice and I personally love her eyebrows.

• When her acting career fizzled,  Jane moved on to a singing making several Christian albums.

• After a clumsily performed abortion in her teens,  Jane was unable to bear children.  She later adopted and founded the World Adoption International Fund (WAIF), a group which eventually facilitated more than 50,000 adoptions.
