  • Nancy is a Sweetbird

In my last post, I promised to tell you more about Nancy and Sweetbird Studios.  So here is my story:

. We met a few years back at the Denver WESA market.   I had just finished with a Double D sales meeting and noticed there was a new vendor in the showroom across the hall.  Knowing that we would be staring back and forth at each other for the next three days, I thought I would saunter on over, introduce myself, and make nice.  So I crossed the hall and...
I don't know if I ever made my introduction or even got my name out ... my jaw dropped and I started doing the Pavlov's-dog-drooling-thing all over her stuff!
I drooled over EVERY thing she had.  Fabulous one-of-a-kind buckles, huge, funky rings, and way-out-but-oh-so-cool necklaces -  it was so refreshing to see such a clear and unique vision for accessories with a western spirit and rock 'n roll soul - all handcrafted from recycled junk! I loved everything and couldn't make up my mind, but knew I wanted a piece for my jewelry collection.  Nancy discreetly wiped drool away as I oooh-ed and ahhh-ed and finally on the third day I made my decision. . I custom ordered a Chief Joseph buckle for my jewelry chest and I twisted her arm into selling me her market display for my kitchen. Now every morning all I have to do it point to Nancy's artwork and my boys are reminded what they are to do for the day.
Can you see the camouflaged directive?
    .

Is this piece AWESOME or what?!  It is all totally recycled junk that Nancy found and fashioned into one of my most favorite pieces of art.  The globe spins, the lights behind the Madonna twinkle and the red neon border gets electrified on 'Margarita Nights'!

Thank you Nancy, for being so talented.   I think you are awesome and when I grow up I want to be JUST LIKE YOU! .

me and every female at studio inferno have a sweetbird piece. we all love nancy and her work. i had first purchased for my gallery salone dell’ artes ARTEMISIA. i closed the gallery and kept all the pieces for myself. then i got 2 belt buckles more for my husband and a ring. nancy came to studio inferno and traded me for some future pieces. and a piece for my lid i picked out. i love the new bags. it all goes well with dd ranchwear. when nancy came to my studio she had the old crow belt with one of her buckles on. my last purchase was the old crow beaded belt. i think the 3 of us should collaborate.

    Cheryl,
Just got into town from Santa Fe and read your blog. Can I just say that is all the most ultimate of compliments coming from you, oh so every talented one? Just one look in any of my closets and you will see who’s designs I adore!! I knew the bar was high for your son’s buckle…..all I could pray and think was, “Will Cheryl like it?” Lotta pressure baby!!
Thank you for you unending support, but most of all your friendship.
