  • Always in Fashion: Good Manners

    April 23, 2010 1 min read 31 Comments

I just had to stop what I was doing today to write about this.

We just received the loveliest thank you note from one of our tee giveaway winners.  It was beautifully scripted on a pretty note-card and absolutely gushed with gratitude over a simple little t-shirt.
Emily Post would have been most pleased.
. [caption id="attachment_3646" align="alignnone" width="575" caption="Tara's thank you note & Audrey's green light"][/caption] . I have to tell you, it was so nice to see someone with good old fashion manners taking the time to pen a thank you.  I'll be the first to admit,  I have gotten lax in this techno age and just shoot off an email or worse, TEXT!  Shame on me - my mama taught me better! Anyway, Audrey was so impressed also, that she gave me the "green light" (green post it) to giveaway some more tees so,
Wah HOO! - Let's give away some tees!
Here is the deal for the new tee giveaway:
    1. write a little thank you note to anyone for anything,
    2. post your "thank you" under today's blog post comments - select the "comment bubble"  at the upper right hand corner,
    3. leave your "thank you",
    4. and Tara (author of the original thank you and DDR girl with good manners) will select THREE winners.
    5. GOOD LUCK and get to writing!
    6. deadline for entries will be Monday at midnight.
_______________________________________________________________________________ Oh, now check this out... as I write this, another nice thank you note!
Maybe I'm the only one with bad manners .... I'm going to work on that.

Cheryl, I still have a thank you note that you gave me 8 or so years ago. It is just a little 2 × 2 card in a 2×2 envelope. I cant seem to throw it away. It meant a lot when you gave it to me & I kid you not but every year since(during audit season) I pull it out and read it.
    Yep, I am officially crazy!

aww – I remember that little note! That means a lot to me, Doris. You are an amazing woman and it has been so much fun to watch you grow and mature into the person you are today. I love watching your relationship with God grow into a personal friendship. Thanks for running the DDR ship and taking all the hard knocks when the storms come rolling in. You are very special to me.

Hey gals at Double D how do I join to get in on the drawings for the free T’s??? I wear Double D pretty often, especially in the winter, some reason I have more of your winter clothes. Anyway just to let you know again, I NEVER wear anything from DD that I don’t get wonderful comments, and a lot of times strangers come up and ask me where I bought “it” and even men have said “I’ve got to get my girl one of those”. So many many thanks for keeping me looking good, in fashion and proud to be in Double D!!!

Four years ago April, I lost my Mom. She and her sisters worked summers as chambermaids-at the Bright Angel Lodge- at the Grand Canyon. My Mom loved the West, particularly Arizoooooona as she would always say, drawing out the OOO’s. I thank you, Mom, for loving me and all eleven of us. I feel that the West is in my heart-because of you. And as I type, your silvery bangles tinkle a song t you….

If I win a tee, I will forward you old time 1940’s pics of my Mom at the Canyon! Please choose me. I never win anything…

Thanks, Cheryl. Yes. I told my Mom every chance that I got. She was amazing. Free tee shirt or not, I must tell another story….lol!

My Mom was wearing jeans before it was fashionable. Once when there was a mule trip- going down into the Canyon-so she put on her jeans-logical- and headed out for a glorious day. When the housekeeping supervisor found out that my Mom had DARED to wear those “tight vulgar jeans” (LEVIS!!!), she told my Mom’s two sisters, “Anna is fired!”
    Her sisters promptly quit.
When my Mom came back to the hotel and heard about the hub bub, she went to the office, apologized and got back all of their jobs! I wish that I had her cool head! But back in those days, cooler heads had to prevail, I guess! So thanks, Mom. Thanks for that little piece of wisdom, too. And thanks aunties-for your devotion. Hope you are all having a laugh up there in the clouds.

I think this is a wonderful participation exercise, Cheryl! As I wrote on Facebook, I regularly write thank you’s to customers at the clothing boutique where I work; however I have felt for some time that I should step up my activity and write thank you’s to other people who regularly impact my life. It is truly special to receive a handwritten note, and it is a shame that so many of us have gotten out of the habit of writing these heartwarming words.

    Dear Frank and Dina,
We cannot begin to express our gratitude for the time you have spent teaching us the steps and music to so many wonderful congregational dance rotations over the past few months. Mark and I feel privileged to be serving the Lord in Simchat Torah’s dance ministry alongside you two, and I am delighted to again be using my talent and experience in worship dance that had fallen by the wayside for too many years.
    Blessings,
    Jessica and Mark

I love getting a thank you note and sending them and am trying to teach my daughter to send them as well – she’s still a teenager so I have to keep on her but I’m hoping the practice will stay with her and that she’ll pay it forward!

I’d like to say thank you to my best friend Ann — we live quite a ways apart these days (me in CA and she in NM) but she is always there for me no matter what! In the past 5 years she’s seen me through my Mom’s death, a couple of job changes, innumerable “crises” and my recent brother’s death. We’ve also had some amazing fun times, the time we “ran away” to Reno, our fun trip to Indian Market in Santa Fe, their housewarming party in NM a year ago and many, many others. Thank you Ann — you are truly the sister I never had!!!

Jessica – girl, you wear me OUT! How-in-the heck do you do it all…cooking, designing, consulting, blogging, sewing, and now worship dancing! I need to take some of your vitamins! As always, I appreciate your long distance friendship and hope to be able to meet you some day. “Thank you” for being a friend.

My friend Suzie and I have just recently started giving each other cards to say how much we cherish our friendship. Suzie is super talented and makes cards, the other day she gave me a “Thank you” card so I could mail it to another friend who sent me a Rosary for making my Communion and Confirmation on Easter Vigil.
I love my friends and cherish all of them, more importantly I love the new friends that I have made from St. James.
BTW, thank you Ms. McMullen for using my services at Up’s & Grounds!

    Awww, thanks Shelly!

This contest inspired me to write a thank you for a very good friend of mine. I’ll share it with you because she won’t be able to read it at this time.

    Dear LaLa,
It hasn’t been very long that you were brought into my life. (Thank goodness for our husbands!) But in that short amount of time, you have shown me unconditional love and friendship with no strings attached. It has always been hard for me to express my “I Love You’s” to anyone other than my boys, but in a short amount of time, we were shouting them to eachother each and everytime we were together. Your boys have become my boys and I trust you completely with mine. Thank you for being you. I love you dear friend. You are a fighter. You have so much ahead of you. Please come back to us.
    Love,
your slumber party-scary movie-bra shopping partner in crime!!!!

I’m using this opportunity to give a long overdue thanks to my younger sister, Brenda. She is fighting stage 4 cancer:

I should have told you sooner and more often how very thankful I am to have you in my life. As the older sister, I always felt I should be the one forging the way and setting the example. Instead, it seems that you have had to be the tough one and I can’t begin to tell you what an inspiration you have been to me.
It seems that when things are hardest, you are the one who is there. When the grandparents wore out the patience of other family members, you were the one who stepped up with kindness and compassion and tended to their needs with tenderness and love.
When you lost your 47 year old husband to a sudden heart attack, you stood solid and moved forward to your life. How much easier it would have been for you to wallow in self-pity and bitterness.
After more than 2 years of fighting cancer, I never hear you complain. Your arms are covered with bruises from the multiple injections and despite the overwhelming tiredness, you go to work and worry about training someone good to take your place if the need arises. You mustered the energy to go to the Hill Country so that we could enjoy the display of wildflowers this year. I know that it would have been so much easier to spend your weekend catching up on rest to start another week, but you managed to make the long drive so that we could spend a little time together enjoying the natural beauty of God’s world together.
You are the greatest blessing a sister could receive. Thank you with all the love in the world!!
    Your sister, Linda

I just want to say Thank-you to my friend Connie for being the sister I never had. I have been through some REALLY hard times in the last ten years and thought many times that I could not go on, especially after each of the 25 surgeries I had to endure. When I was down, she propped me up..when I cried she made me laugh, and mostly when I had no faith in myself, she loaned me hers until I could find mine again. I am so fortunate to have a friend like her, some people never get to experience a friendship that has lasted so long and by such a wonderful person. I have been blessed!! B.J. Grote, NE

    My thank you note:

Dear Cheryl and the rest of the DD Ranchwear Family,
Thank you for being one of my sources of inspiriation! I am a junior attending Colorado State University double majoring in Apparel and Merchandising with a Design and Production Concentration AND Agricultural Business. When I tell people what my major is they don’t get it, but to me I am just combining two things that I am very passionate about. When a teacher told me about your company I knew that I had found something very special and I have continued to follow your company.
Thank you for installing in me the fact that I can combine my two passions!
