The Dead Live On!

OK, I'm not a big Deadhead, but I am a huge fan of the Grateful Dead's album covers and show posters.

Since Jerry Garcia's (RIP) passing in 1995, the band has been in the process of disbanding and disbursing. Thankfully Eileen Law was able to preserve and archive their tantalizing ephemera and the University of California, Santa Cruz is now the lucky recipient of all things Dead.

A recent feature in the New York Times tells the whole story, but for now won't you enjoy some of my favorite Dead graphics?

My all time favorite!

The first time this image hit the scene was on an Avalon Ballroom concert poster, when the Dead were just another San Francisco rock band. Mouse and Kelley would spend their days in the back rooms of the San Francisco library digging through art books. When Kelley saw Edmund J. Sullivan's illustration of the Skeleton in the Rubaiyat, he said: "This has Grateful Dead all over it." The band related so well to the poster art that they then used it for an album cover, and eventually made it their logo.

Oh, you caught me - I thought I would slip this one in here for fun and to make sure you were on top of your game.   Please, I don't want any nasty comments about me not being Mr. Mouse.

Love the Native Americans and the wonderful font .... so much so, I think I will use it as a spring board for a new tee!
