The Salt Grass Trail Ride started their 62nd ride yesterday and it got me to remembering our ride back in 1994.  If you are unfamiliar with the SGTR here are some facts:
    • The Salt Grass Trail Ride is the largest organized trail ride of modern times
    • Started in 1952
    • Over 2000 riders and 90 wagons
    • Founded by 4 families and is still run by the Marks - one of the original founders
    • Leaves from Wittenburg's Pasture, Cat Spring, TX
    • Endpoint: The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo!
    • Saltgrass Steakhouse is named after the  ride and features old photos and memorabilia as part of their decor
Back in 1994, Linda Marks invited us to be her guests on the ride. Naturally, we jumped on the 'wagon' for a little excuse called a "fashion show".  Take a look at some of our rememories:

Special thanks to Linda Marks for all the wonderful Salt Grass Trail Ride rememories!

I LOVE this story and the pictures!! I saw my first DDR in the mid 1990’s, and have been in love with it ever since! So when ya’ll post these stories here and on the Double D Addiction page, it let’s me, as a customer, get to know ya’ll as a family, which makes me feel special, and makes your clothes that much MORE special!!! Thanks for bringing some joy into my world!

Loved the photos – how far did you ride? I remember your Dad had racehorses so I guess all of you grew up riding? I think it’s a kind of therapy to view life and nature from the back of a horse…sort of simplifies things.

Chris, Dad wrangled horses and gear for days to get us all set up to ride. Audrey, Hedy, Mom and I rode the weekend then had to get back Monday for something important. ( what now, I can’t remember) Dad stayed with the group and rode all the way into Houston. Such great memories.
As far as seeing the world on the back of a horse – it just opens everything up – everything is bigger and clearer and REAL!
