    PERFECT POTTERY

The perfect finishing touch to any room. This vintage terracotta bowl was crafted by the late Lucy Martin Lewis who has dedicated her life to the century-long tradition of pottery making. She learned at a young age from Acoma Pueblo women. This bowl has a cream colored base with a black painted roadrunner and lizard pictographs accented with leafy designs. The neutral colors give it the versatility to go in a room of your home.

    Lucy Martin Lewis, (1902 - 1992)

Lucy Martin Lewis dedicated her life to upholding the centuries-long tradition of pottery making in Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico. With no access to formal education or art classes, she learned the craft as a young child from her great-aunt and other Acoma Pueblo women. Her dung-fired white pottery, featuring black "thin-line" geometric abstractions derived from ancestral designs, gained recognition in 1950 when she won a blue ribbon at the Annual Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial in Gallup, New Mexico. Her pottery was subsequently featured in the collections of many renowned museums, including the Smithsonian Institution, and she was recognized for her artistry with a series of awards, such as the New Mexico Governor's Award in 1983. Lewis continued to practice pottery into her eighties and passed on her passion to her daughters and grandchildren, who followed in her footsteps.
