  • Miscellaneous, Ceremonial Dance Gourd Rattle, Vintage, '60's, 189

What a beautiful piece of Hopi Indian culture.

This 1960s handmade gourd rattle is a ceremonial item made of wood, gourd, and buckskin, filled with seeds or nuts which provide the “rattle” sound. The gourd rattle was used in solemn Southwest dance ceremonies intended to bring rain and continued growth and prosperity. It should be admired for its beauty but also respected for what it represents.
