A STUNNING STATEMENT SQUASH FOR THE TRUE COLLECTOR.
This vintage sterling silver squash blossom necklace featuring natural Lone Mountain turquoise, was handmade by a Navajo Artist who worked at Carl Luthey Studio circa early 1970s. The single strand of intricately stamped desert pearls is interspersed with spacer discs of vibrant Lone Mountain turquoise and features a dozen sleek and slender silver blossoms. As the strand approaches the naja, it boasts two smooth slabs of the Lone Mountain turquoise, and it’s finished with a chic-stamped sterling silver open-hand naja complemented by two turquoise nuggets. It’s incredible, rare, and absolutely stunning. A piece for the true collector.
Carl W Luthey in the 1960s and ‘70s had excellent Navajo silversmiths working for him making the jewelry that he designed. Much of his jewelry has the leaf and flower design that was so popular then. Some of the artists that worked with him did very distinctive and recognizable work; among them Luke Billy Yazzie and Louise and Ramone Platero. The Carl Luthey Studio sign is a stick figure representing the designer instead of the maker. Sometimes, there will also be the artist’s sign as well. The head is a C, the arms are a W and the legs have an L in them. Carl passed away January 31, 1975 in Albuquerque, NM.
If you are someone that loves to add eclectic pieces to their personal collection then this squash blossom is for you. It was made in the studio of the late Carl Luthey where many other well-known artists created unique pieces. The necklace is strung on a single strand of sterling silver Navajo pearls that are spaced out with natural Lone Mountain turquoise stones. Traditional blossoms are spread throughout that are topped with matching pearls. At the center of the necklace is a sterling silver naja with simple stampwork and is accented with a Lone Mountain turquoise stone. Completing this piece is the hook and eye closure at its ends. This piece is one you will not want to miss out on, so grab it now for your collection.
