    ODIE MAC IS BACK!

The Odie jackets are one of those pieces that have become so beloved – and have such a special place in our hearts – that we reinvent them every few years. This fall, Riata’s Odie jacket maintains the black-and-white aesthetic of the collection in a bold, large plaid – destined to be a timeless classic.

By now y’all know we love to draw inspiration from all sorts of things, from everything around us, but more than anything, from our upbringing and our family. The Odie jacket is one of those things that was born out of childhood memories, of the racetrack and of our beloved grandfather, “Odie Mac”.

Check out this darling piece written by Cheryl a few years ago; a first-person account of how the Odie Mac jackets came to be.

GROWING UP WE WERE "TRACK RATS"

    BY CHERYL MCMULLEN

We spent every weekend and summers at dirt tracks in Texas, or when times were good, Paramutual Tracks in Louisiana and New Mexico, watching our dad's quarter horses sprint a quarter mile for a whole 21 seconds.

My paternal grandfather, Odell was right instep and never missed a race either. In fact, he got his nickname "Odie Mac" at some track along the way.

As I was sourcing fabric for this season I came across a lovely woolen, ombre plaid that reminded me of "odie mac" and one of the coats he used to wear. I had to do some digging, but sure enough, I uncovered a photo of him at the columbus racetrack in a handsome, western-cut, plaid coat. it was inevitable that I would do my own version of a woolen plaid for this season and doubtless name it "Odie Mac".

Odie’s back! This jacket is inspired by our grandfather, “Odie Mac”, who was known for his signature plaid jackets; we’ve designed a few iterations over the years to pay homage to him. This season’s version is a bold black-and-white large plaid in a double-breasted cut, and it might be our favorite one yet!
