LUXE LOUNGE

We are not compromising comfort OR cute this season. Because why would we?

The concept of “luxe lounge” is trending strongly right now, but it’s not exactly new.

“It’s an evolution that originated in quarantine,” Cheryl said. “There was an introduction of what we coined ‘sloungewear’, that was somewhere between sleepwear and loungewear. No one was going anywhere, obviously, but we realized it was doing something to our psyche to not get dressed, to not get out of our PJs, and essentially, not to feel cute. So we designed sloungewear to fill that void, to meet at the crossroads of comfy and cute, and since then it’s evolved and elevated to clothes we ARE going out in. Luxe lounge has essentially kept the silhouettes, the joggers and the cropped slouchy tops, but the fabrics are elevated – velvets, silks, cashmeres, things like that.”

Our spin on luxe lounge makes an appearance this season in the Sands Spring pieces: a chic boxy top with a V-neck and dropped shoulder, and a slender jogger with pockets and a drawstring tie.

“I personally love the ribbon-like ties we used in this group,” said Claire Johanson, a DDR designer. “It’s a romantic take on the utility aspect of the designs in Monument Valley.”

The Sands Spring pieces are crafted from a luxurious viscose velvet in the desaturated dusty rose hues that, like much of Monument Valley, are reminiscent of canyon clay. The chic patterning is a mosaic of southwestern rug design sublimated to mimic the well-loved look of a threadbare Persian rug, inspired by a vintage pillow Cheryl found on one of her recent travels.

“I’m kind of partial to them as a pair,” Cheryl said. “They’re just a really fun and fresh vibe worn together, maybe with a cute pair of platform sandals or chic sneakers; I think we styled it with some cute moccasin booties. We threw them with the Valley of the Gods Jacket on over the pair on Kaylin when we were styling it for the website, and love the way that looked, too! But each piece also works on its own, they’d beautifully contrast-complement denim, or go for a harmonious feel with a dusty rose or a peach or a cream. ”
