It’s World Health Day today, and we’re taking our Monument Valley mindset on the move!

Because we’ve had all sorts of scenic spots on our mind since we started concepting this collection, it feels like a natural fit to lace up our hiking boots and hit the trail. Obviously, getting moving – and getting outside – is good for your health, but the benefits to hiking may be more extensive than you even realize.

For starters, there’s lots to look at all around you. Whether you’re off to a dreamy destination or just hitting the local loop, being immersed in the outdoors engages you more fully – both mentally and physically – and studies show that it tends to lead to longer outings. And let’s face it, it beats the heck out of seeing the sweaty folks around you on the treadmills at the gym.

Speaking of being more engaging, hiking also trumps the treadmill because natural terrain can improve your sense of balance, as well as build stronger muscles and bones, improve heart health, and decrease the risk of certain respiratory problems, according to the National Park Service.

And while you’re strengthening your body, you can also strengthen your bonds by bringing along a buddy, a sibling, a spouse, or even your kids. Of course, you’ll want to choose your trail based on a common degree of difficulty, but having a partner is a bonus in terms of both safety and enjoyment – you might even forget you’re exercising!

Last but not least, hiking helps you mind your mind! We’re not telling you anything you don’t already know, but your mental health and physical health are inextricably linked, and getting movin’ and groovin’ in the great outdoors is good for them both.

Maybe you take a daytrip jaunt to a cool canyon a short drive away, maybe it’s a winding walking trail in the center of your city, or maybe it’s just picking up the pace around the park down the street – we’re counting it. Lace up those hiking boots and let’s get moving.
