“You can't wait for inspiration. You have to go after it with a club.”

    - Jack London

    Before They Pass Away

In a world saturated with information and ideas, new inspiration can sometimes be difficult to untangle. This year, Cheryl was having one of those moments until she came across “The Photo.” It was taken backstage at a Yves Saint Laurent Men’s Show.

Cheryl’s thought – I love this. What if we did an Argentinian Gaucho story full of warm tones and South American weavings?

It sounded lovely, but the truth of the matter was that not a single forecasting service was talking about South America, gauchos or anything remotely similar. So while continuing to research that same day, she came across a trend report on new photography books.  The one that caught her eye visually tells the story of cultures that are slowly dying out.  Before They Pass Away  is Jimmy Nelson's beautiful documentation of 35 imperiled groups including the Huli and Kalam tribes of New Guinea and the Tsaatan of Mongolia. One of the cultures Nelson documented just so happened to be the Argentinian Gaucho.

Bingo. There was all the confirmation she needed. The rest became Double D Ranch's 2016 Les Gauchos Collection.
